Computer Support Technician
Cavalier, ND
3 Month Contract

Job Description
  • Under minimal supervision provides technical and administrative support in the installation and maintenance of computer hardware and network equipment.
  • Unpacks and installs as new network equipment at user site.
  • Prepares cables for connection to network peripherals.
  • Performs on-site testing of equipment and cables for continuity problems after installation.
  • Performs appropriate preventative maintenance as needed (i.e. cleaning tape drives printers).
  • Assists in troubleshooting peripheral and network problems when inconsistencies between hardware and software occur.
  • Performs corrective action as required.
  • Arranges for repair of peripheral equipment through vendor or in-house group as needed.
  • Interfaces with vendor to solve system problems.
  • Researches and troubleshoots systems access problems using knowledge systems performance measurement utilities edit utilities (i.e. TSO/SPF) and other network concepts as needed.
  • Researches access problems with assistance as needed to determine compatible terminals and peripheral equipment.
  • Assists in the maintenance of systems access authorization file site diaries security clearance logs as required.
  • Prepares and monitors network maintenance work orders for installing cables for new and relocated peripheral equipment.
  • Interfaces with plant engineering to coordinate work orders for cabling requirements.
  • Prepares tapes and cables for connection to the computer network.
  • Provides assistance to users requiring account information command procedures and system utilities instruction to familiarize them with the systems.
  • Assists in resolution of user problems (i.e. system access user suspension restarting equipment etc.).
  • Participates in the evaluation of new equipment software products or operational methods that may increase efficiency in the use of computer resources by comparison of product specifications assessment of user requirements and attendance at vendor demonstrations.
  • Maintains and monitors department owned equipment.
  • Evaluates office and lab requirements to recommend configuration of furnishings power telephones network connections peripheral equipment etc. through contact with vendors higher level support personnel and facilities group as needed.
  • Provides follow up with Procurement and Receiving regarding purchase orders to provide rapid equipment availability to the user community.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Current CompTIA Security + Certification
  • Secret clearance (Interim secret clearance is acceptable).
  • Experience with Group Policy, Telephone Switches, and PA Systems preferred
  • 3-5 years experience in computer system administration
  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Experience in communications computer systems with some base or site level experience in communications logistics support desired.
  • Experience in LANs and in preparing small computer security system plans are highly desirable.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Juniper, CLI, Active Directory, and Microsoft operating systems and programs.
